What is Two-Wheeler Insurance?

When times become uncertain, having a safety net becomes more important. Buying the right two-wheeler insurance is equivalent to protecting yourself and your loved ones with a reliable safety net.

If you are a two-wheeler owner in any state of India, you must have a two-wheeler insurance policy. Riding a bike without a basic third-party insurance policy is a punishable offence which can attract a fine of up to INR 4,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 3 months, as per the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, 2019.

Types of Insurance Plans:

There are two types of two-wheeler insurance policies available in India:

1

Third-Party Insurance Policy

This is the primary bike insurance policy and is legally required for every two-wheeler owner. A third-party bike insurance plan only covers damages incurred in an accident where a third-party is involved. This kind of insurance policy will cover any injury and/or damage caused to the third party or its property. It does not cover any damage/injury caused to the policyholder or any own damage caused to the bearer of policy.

2

Comprehensive Insurance Policy

Comprehensive Two-Wheeler Insurance provides complete cover for the two-wheeler and the insured. In other words, the comprehensive plan covers the third-party liability as well as your injuries and vehicle damage or theft. Many other add-ons and optional covers are also offered by some Insurance companies, such as zero depreciation coverages, consumables, return to invoice, etc. Therefore, in a nutshell, under a comprehensive two-wheeler insurance policy, the vehicle will be covered against theft, loss, and damage. Further, it also offers personal accidental cover for the owner or rider in event of an accident. In addition, this type of two-wheeler insurance also covers you in the case of third-party liability.

Normally the cover of comprehensive insurance for two-wheelers is on an annual basis, which means that these are renewable every year. But if you wish to get rid of the trouble of renewal every year, you can opt for a long-term two-wheeler insurance cover
